Again with the Watchmen

I just saw the new Watchmen trailer and hoo-boy! I continue to be encouraged by what I'm seeing.

Also, I noticed something on the Ozymandias poster that thrills me beyond words:

That long-eared cat thing looks exactly like the ones Gibbons drew. Aieeeee!

I am easily amused. Carry on.

Hey, Kids! News!

The payout copy of Marvel Comics #1 goes up for auction. Since I'm not a big-time comics collector, this is the first I've heard of payout copies. I can see why such a thing would be valuable I just didn't know about the practice. I'm curious to see how much it goes for.

A British company I've never heard of buys a stake in an American comics company I've never heard of.

Hell, yeah! There's a Jonah Hex movie in the works! Please don't screw this up.

The Y: The Last Man movie has a creative team. D.J. Caruso will direct and Carl Ellsworth will be the inker-- I mean writer.

From the mouths of webcomics

Shortpacked echoes my feelings about Darwyn Cooke's The Spirit and Frank "Testosterone" Miller's involvement in the proposed movie.

What I said about it wasn't as funny but it does have a keen scan of an old-school Spirit cover.

Linkin' Ain't Easy

I finally saw 300. It's good. You can read actual reviews of it all over the web. All I'll say is that 300 was exactly faithful enough to the original material (both the visuals and the story) to still be an enjoyable movie. Sin City, on the other hand, was fanatically faithful and the movie suffered.

Here's something I didn't know about: Stan Lee Media (no longer associated with Stan) sues Marvel for ownership of many characters.

Comics Should Be Good continues its Comic-Book Urban Legends series with one related to Captain America #25, sort of.

New (to me) blogs and 300

Oh, and Again with the comics.

Every trailer I see for 300 makes me want to see it more. I liked the graphic novel and it looks like this movie will work really well on screen. I thought Sin City didn't translate well. Well, actually, I thought it translated too well. Those testosterone-filled stories worked remarkably well in book form but when they were put through the 3-D photocopy effect of the movie they came off as a weird mix of tedious and disgusting.

300 looks like it's going to be the sort of testosterone-filled story that will really kick ass as a movie. Oh, and it's gonna be on IMAX. Dang.
