Barton Fink! Barton Fink!

The super-awesome Heidi Meeley sent her blog through Mingle2.com's rating machine. I did, too. Here's what I got:

That's about what I figured. I am puzzled by the examples it gave for the rating, however:

* death (5x)
* gay (2x)
* hells (1x)

OK, let's address the "gay" thing first. I'm guessing their official reason for including it is that many porn sites have a gay section. However, most of the uses I've seen of the word are PG-rated at worst. Also, this blog uses "gay" primarily because it's the last name of one of our contributors (i.e. my wife).

"Death" and "Hells"? WTF? I don't even know where to start with those. I would have figured my frequent uses of words like "fuck", "shit", and "Mark Millar" would have set off the R-rating alarms. Go figure.

Even better. My other journal--you know, the one with the gay porn--was rated G.

Wow.

I...

That's actually amazing. What criteria could they possibly be using?

I'm seriously boggled. It's possible, mind, that it's only taking recent entries, because the aforementioned porn is backdated. Oh, wait, but it's still pretty recent on my GreatestJournal backup. Hang on...

Nope, still G. But, on the other hand, all my stuff is under a cut. Just a sec...

Ah-ha! After I removed the cut tag from a story, I got NC-17:

This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:

* cock (8x)
* hurt (4x)
* orgasm (2x)
* limbs (1x) [limbs? WTF?]

Okay, that explains how I was the only one among my friends posting actual adult material, and at the same time pretty much only one whose journal was rated G. That's some grade-A irony there.

Ah, now I get it. Out of sight, out of mind.

Limbs?!?
